A mild earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale was recorded on Wednesday morning near Hattarkihal village in Yaranal gram panchayat, Basavana Bagewadi taluk, Vijayapura district, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) said.

The tremor occurred at 07:43:38 AM and originated at a shallow depth of about 5 km, with the epicentre located roughly 2.5 km north-west of Hattarkihal village. Local residents reported feeling light vibrations but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

According to KSNDMC’s intensity assessment, the observed seismic intensity was low, and the tremor may have been felt within a radius of 50–60 km from the epicentre. The agency said the event does not indicate immediate danger to the community.
